The Best Dog Breeds

I read recently that France has more dogs than any other European country, but what breed of dog do the French choose? There may be as many as five hundred ‘official’ breeds of dog, not counting mongrels or mix-breeds, such as ‘pekidors’.

If you need a good guard dog, I understand that a terrier will make most noise, and never give up. A collie will make sure that nobody leaves the group on a family walk. Or a labrador for friendship, if you can risk loaves of bread, or any other food being stolen.
However, if you want a reliable teaching assistant for your English classes, you cannot do better than an English pointer. No, make that two English pointers.
The presence of an animal makes people relax, unless you’re a burglar, being chased by a terrier. And when you are relaxed, you learn more easily.

The pages of this website feature several pictures of Rocket and Sapphire; our first two English pointers. They worked with me at SPLE, a language school in Toulouse, and then went on to help when we set up Stage Immersion Anglais. They have since both died but have recently been succeeded by Tracker and Shadow; of which more news will follow.
